Two ‘living’ strategies that will help manage the Peak District has been developed and adopted by park chiefs.
Members of the Peak District National Park Authority approved both the National Park Management Plan (NPMP) and Authority Plan (AP) for 2023-28 in a meeting on Friday (December 2).
Presenting the MPNP, chairman Councillor Andrew McCloy described it as the ‘sharpest’ plan he’d seen in his time at the authority, adding that it was ‘live’ and should be treated as such.
Deputy chairman James Berresford, who chaired the task and finish group for the document, commented: “Life will change around us, we’ll change and this plan has to be adaptive to that, but the main principles of what we’re trying to achieve are pretty clear in here and so too are the obligations for our partners.
“Yes, this is a document for the place, but it’s a document for the people who shape the place too so our local authority colleagues, businesses and so forth all must find relevance in this.”
Both plans work towards the authority’s 20 year vision, which includes aims such as achieving net zero by 2024, that Peak District communities are thriving and sustainable places for all generations and the cultural heritage is enhanced.
