The countdown is on for Bolsover Council to spend £100k of developers’ money

The clock is ticking for council officers who need to spend £100k of developers’ cash by the end of the year or face losing it.

Bolsover District Council has received the funds in the form of Section 106 (S106) payments, which are a legal agreement between a planning authority and developer to be spent within the community.

The total sum is made of S106 contributions from three separate developments throughout the district, all of which have expiry dates in the next few months, by which time they need to be spent.

Presenting the quarterly S106 report to the authority’s planning committee on Wednesday, September 28, Principle Planning Policy Officer Julie-Anne Middleditch commented: “The implementation of S106 agreements in a timely manner alongside the build out of the improved infrastructure is important as failure to achieve this will mean important infrastructure elements lagging behind the development.”

A contribution of £30,132 towards health has come from phase two of the Thurgaton Way development in Newton, which has an extended expiry date of November 1.

Meanwhile payments from the Carter Lane West development, in South Normanton, of £12,766 for public open space (POS) and £5,165 for art must be spent by December 7.

Lastly two outstanding amounts from Meridian Close, in Bolsover, of £27,475 for POS and £24,547 for outdoor sport will expire on December 22.

Councillor Duncan McGregor commented that it was important for members to know that S106 monies had been implemented within their wards.
