Police are trying to trace two Good Samaritans who supported a woman who had allegedly been assaulted in the city centre.

Patrolling officers came across a young woman with facial injuries in Corporation Street at about 2am on Saturday 22 January.

We understand that a man driving a van had stopped before officers found the woman, asking if she was alright. A short time later, a woman spoke to the victim and stayed with her for a time.

Police would like to speak to these two people in case they have information which could help our inquiries.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, questioned and released on bail while the investigation continues.
