Liam Mandeville scored the only goal of the game in the 65th minute. The Spireites have moved up to fifth in the National League table at this very early stage of the season.

Buxton recorded their first victory of the season as they beat Curzon Ashton 1-0 at The Tarmac Silverlands Stadium. Diego De Girolamo’s converted penalty with around 20 minutes remaining was the difference between the two sides. The Bucks have moved up to eighth position in the National League North table.

Elsewhere in the National League North division, Alfreton Town’s unbeaten start to the season continued over the weekend as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Farsley Celtic. Billy Heath’s side sit in 16th position in the league table.

Matlock Town got their season off to the perfect start on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Whitby Town 1-0 on the opening day of the Northern Premier League Premier Division campaign at The Proctor Cars Stadium. Jorome Slew scored on his Gladiators debut in the 15th minute to give Matlock Town all three points. Paul Phillips’s side sit in ninth position in the league table.

In the NWCFL Division One South, New Mills were beaten 2-1 at home by Maine Road. Kyle Hawley’s 15 minute goal gave the Millers the lead but Maine Road equalised through Shaquille Lewys in the 34th minute of the game. Lewys then scored another goal in the 72nd minute to condemn New Mills to a home defeat. The Millers now occupy 12th position in the league table after four games played.

Staveley Miners Welfare were defeated 1-0 away at Swallownest in the NCEL Division One. Liam Frost scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time. The Trojans have slipped to seventh position in the league table.

And finally, the scheduled pre-season friendly game between Chesterfield Ladies and Brighouse Town Women U23 for Sunday was unfortunately cancelled as Brighouse did not have enough players available to field a team.
