Chesterfield thrashed Torquay United 5-1 away from home in the National League on Saturday afternoon. Jamie Grimes gave the Spireites an early lead but the hosts equalised on the half hour mark through Dillon De Silva. However, Paul Cook’s side ran riot in the second half and goals from Darren Oldaker, Bailey Clements, Jesurun Uchegbulam and Kabongo Tshimanga secured all three points for Chesterfield and they remain in third position in the league.

Alfreton Town were held to a 0-0 draw against Bradford (Park Avenue) at The Impact Arena. The Reds have slipped to 11th position in the National League North table.

Elsewhere in the National League North, Buxton were comprehensively beaten 4-0 at home by Banbury United. A brace from Giorgio Rasulo plus goals from Alex Babos and Jay Williams condemned the Bucks to a miserable afternoon at The Tarmac Silverlands Stadium. Jamie Vermiglio’s side have fallen to 18th place in the league table.

Matlock Town secured an excellent 1-0 victory away at league leaders Hyde United in the NPL Premier Division. A goal on the half hour mark from John Johnston gave the Gladiators all three points and their third victory in a row. Craig Elliott’s side are up to sixth position in the table and are now only three points off the top of the league.

Glossop North End were held to a 1-1 draw at Newcastle Town on Saturday afternoon. Jacques Etia gave the Hillmen the lead early on in the second half but were pegged back by the hosts in the 65th minute through Jacob Lovatt. Glossop are now in 13th position in the NPL Division One West league.

New Mills drew 2-2 against Stockport Town at Church Lane on Saturday afternoon. They’ll still be wondering how on earth they didn’t win the match! First half goals from Reece Lyndon and George Howarth put the Millers in control but goals in stoppage time from Daniel McLaughlin and Tobias Green for the visitors secured a point from nowhere for Stockport. New Mills are now in seventh position in the NWCFL Division One South league.

Staveley Miners Welfare’s excellent run of form continued on Saturday when they thrashed Beverley Town 5-1 at Inkersall Road in the NCEL Division One league. First half goals from Marley Grant, Max Rhodes and William Wraith plus a second half brace from Samuel Kay secured Staveley’s fifth win on the bounce. Samuel Calvert scored in reply for the visitors. The Trojans have moved up to sixth position in the league table and are now just one point behind the play-off places.

Finally, Dronfield Town Ladies were knocked out of the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday afternoon following a 6-2 defeat at higher-tier Northampton Town Women in the first-round proper. Braces from Abbie Reboul and Kim Farrow plus goals from Alex Dicks and Gracie Williams booked Northampton’s place in the second round of the competition.
