Chesterfield conceded a goal in the eighth minute of injury time to draw 1-1 away at relegation-threatened Weymouth on Saturday afternoon. However, the last gasp equaliser was not the moment making all the headlines. Sadly, the game was marred by an awful injury for star striker Kabongo Tshimanga late on in the game. Tshimanga was in agony and had to be treated by medical staff for several minutes before he could be stretchered off the pitch. The Spireites took the lead in the 70th minute through Alex Whittle and looked set to give Paul Cook a winning start to his second managerial spell at the club. However, a goal from Weymouth’s Ahkeem Rose deep into injury time broke Chesterfield supporters hearts. The draw meant that the Spireites missed the chance to overtake Stockport County at the top of the National League. Chesterfield are now behind the Hatters only on goal difference.

Chesterfield Women staged an excellent comeback to secure a 2-2 draw at home against table-toppers Northampton Town Women in the East Midlands Womens Premier Division. A goal in each half from Alex Dicks looked to have maintained Northampton’s 100% win record in the league but Mike Noon’s side produced an inspired fightback. Player of the match Amy Pashley scored an excellent free kick midway through the second half before Georgina Williams scored a dramatic equaliser in the fourth minute of injury time to claim a vital point in the title race. The draw means that Chesterfield Women remain in second position in the table and three points behind Northampton Town Women.
It was a rough day at the office for Alfreton Town. Billy Heath’s men were soundly beaten 4-0 by Gateshead at The Impact Arena in the National League North. A first half brace from Cedwyn Scott and second half goals from Greg Olley and Macauley Langstaff rounded off a miserable afternoon for the Reds. Alfreton now sit in 13th position in the league table.
Matlock Town came from behind twice in extremely windy conditions to secure a 2-2 draw away at Whitby Town in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. An early goal from Lewis Hawkins gave the Seasiders the lead before an Al Byrne penalty brought the Gladiators back on level terms in the 20th minute. Jacob Hazel regained Whitby’s lead shortly before half time. Matlock persevered well in the second half and managed to get back onto level terms once again in the 83rd minute thanks to Liam Hughes’s scrappy goal following a corner. The Gladiators still sit top of the league but their lead has now been cut down to one point.
Elsewhere in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, Buxton’s upturn in form continued as they defeated Nantwich Town 3-1 away from home. The Bucks fell behind midway through the first half when Shaun Miller scored for the Dabbers but a second half brace from Jamie Ward and a late goal from Mackenzie Heaney gave Buxton all three points. The Bucks remain in third position in the table and are now just two points behind leaders Matlock Town.
In the NCEL Premier Division, Staveley Miners Welfare suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Silsden. Goals from Jack Normanton and Josimar Bradshaw sent the Trojans home without a point. The defeat meant that Staveley slipped one position to eighth in the league table.
Unfortunately, the local derby between Matlock Town Ladies and Bakewell Town Ladies was postponed due to the poor weather.
