Chesterfield picked up a very important win over the weekend in their first game since the departure of James Rowe. The Spireites beat Dagenham And Redbridge 2-1 at The Technique Stadium to remain in second position in the National League and to stay just one point behind leaders Stockport County. Dagenham took the lead in the 35th minute through Josh Walker but two converted penalties from top goal scorer Kabongo Tshimanga secured all three points for Chesterfield.

It was a dreadful day at the office though for Alfreton Town on Saturday. The Reds were thrashed 5-0 by Bradford (Park Avenue) away from home in the National League North. Goals from Harrison Hopper, Adam Nowakowski, Lewis Knight and a brace from Brad Dockerty gave Park Avenue all three points. The defeat sees Alfreton slip down one place to 12th in the National League North table.
Matlock Town suffered a bitterly disappointing 1-0 defeat at home against Lancaster City on Saturday afternoon in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. A heartbreaking 90th minute goal from Joseph Rodwell-Grant secured all three points for the Dolly Blues. Ryan Qualter was also sent off for the Gladiators midway through the second half. Despite the defeat, Matlock Town are still two points clear at the top of the table.
Buxton came from behind twice to draw 2-2 at home against South Shields in an entertaining game in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. A very early goal from Robert Briggs after just two minutes put the Mariners in front but Jason Gilchrist equalised for the Bucks in the 15th minute. Jack Bodenham put South Shields back in front in the 26th minute before former Northern Ireland international Jamie Ward brought Buxton back on level terms in the 66th minute. The draw means that the Bucks remain in third position in the table and sit six points behind league leaders and fierce rivals Matlock Town.
In the NCEL Premier Division, Staveley Miners Welfare returned to winning ways as they defeated Goole 4-1 at home. A brace from Tyler Dunn and goals from Declan Howe and Ewan Catt secured a resounding win for the Trojans while Joshua Schofield scored Goole’s only goal. The win means that Staveley have moved back up to sixth position in the league table.
Unfortunately, the local derby between Matlock Town Ladies and Belper Town Ladies was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
