A sensational 89th minute goal from Curtis Weston secured a much needed three points for Chesterfield on Saturday evening. A dour and flat game looked certain to end as a goalless draw but an absolutely superb volley in the nick of time from Weston gave the Spireites a vital 1-0 win away from home against Eastleigh. The win sent Chesterfield back to second position in the National League and the Spireites sit just one point behind leaders Stockport County and have a game in hand on them.
Chesterfield Women had an exceptional weekend as they defeated arch rivals Mansfield Town Ladies 3-0 away from home in the East Midlands Womens Premier Division. Goals from Beth Smyth, Georgia Willson and Georgina Williams secured an excellent three points for Mike Noon’s side. This marks their third win in a row and keeps the Spireites in second place in the league and three points behind the leaders Northampton Town Women.
Alfreton Town beat Spennymoor Town 3-2 at The Impact Arena on Saturday afternoon to return to winning ways. In an entertaining game, Spennymoor took the lead after 20 minutes through Frank Mulhern. Goals from Conor Branson and Ritchie Sutton shortly before half time put the Reds 2-1 in front. A header from Matt Rhead extended Alfreton’s lead in the 58th minute. Glen Taylor pulled a goal back for Spennymoor in the 67th minute but the Reds held on to claim the three points and regain some much needed momentum. Billy Heath’s men have now risen to 11th place in the National League North table and are six points behind the play-off spots.
Matlock Town Ladies beat Mickleover Ladies 3-0 away from home in a Derbyshire derby on Sunday afternoon. A brace from Donna Unwin and a goal from Natalie Loomes secured all three points for Matlock.
Buxton’s rotten run of form finally came to an end last weekend as they defeated Hyde United 2-1 away from home. Early second half goals from Jason Gilchrist and Warren Clarke put the Bucks 2-0 in front. A late goal from Jonah Mitchell for the Tigers set up a nervy and tense finale but Buxton held on to claim a vital three points. The win sent the Bucks back up to third position in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
Staveley Miners Welfare dropped one place to seventh in the NCEL Premier Division following a 4-2 defeat away from home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare. A hat-trick from Jason Davis and a goal from Charlie Barks secured the victory for Hemsworth. Charlie Oglesby and Declan Howe scored Staveley’s goals.
Unfortunately. Matlock Town’s crucial top of the table encounter away at South Shields was postponed due to high winds causing damage to the 1st Cloud Arena. Despite not playing, the Gladiators remain three points clear at the top of the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
