North Derbyshire Radio – Weekend Football Round Up

It was a frustrating weekend for Chesterfield as they were held to a goalless draw at home by Aldershot Town in the National League. Despite only picking up a point, the draw meant that the Spireites have now moved back to the top of the league. FC Halifax Town’s surprise defeat at Maidenhead United meant that Chesterfield are now ahead of the Shaymen on goal difference.

Chesterfield Women made it two wins in a row yesterday as they beat Loughborough Students Women 3-0 at Shirebrook Academy. A brace from Gina Camfield plus an own goal gave Mike Noon’s side all three points. The win moves Chesterfield Women up to second position in the East Midlands Womens Premier Division.
Alfreton Town suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home against Blyth Spartans in the National League North. Dan Maguire’s goal with ten minutes to go secured all three points for Blyth. The defeat leaves the Reds in 12th position in the table and Billy Heath’s side are now four points behind the play-off spots.
It was yet another fantastic result for Matlock Town in the Northern Premier League Premier Division. The Gladiators beat Bamber Bridge 2-1 at The Proctor Cars Stadium to move six points clear at the top of the table. Alex Wiles’s first goal of the season plus Reece Kendall’s goal midway through the second half put Matlock 2-0 up. A converted penalty from Paul Dawson in the 74th minute set up a nervy and tense finale to the game.
Buxton’s poor run of form continues to be a concern though. They were soundly beaten 3-0 away from home by in-form Morpeth Town in the NPL Premier Division. Second half goals from Liam Henderson and Liam Noble plus an own goal from Joshua Granite led to another miserable day at the office for the Bucks. The result means that Buxton have only picked up one point from their last six league games and the Bucks have now slipped down to fifth position in the league.
Last but not least, Staveley Miners Welfare returned to winning ways over the weekend. The Trojans thrashed Knaresborough Town 5-1 at home in the NCEL Premier Division. Knaresborough took an early lead through Sean Hunter but a brace from Declan Howe, an own goal from Simon Swales plus goals from Ewan Catt and Rieves Boocock gave Staveley all three points and moved them up to sixth position in the league table.
